Located in Lihue on Kauai Island of Hawaii, Yamato's Ice Cream food truck has been serving a unique assortment of homemade ice creams, sherbets, and sorbets incorporating as many locally grown and produced ingredients as possible. We have expanded to include local and Japanese home cooking style foods such as the ubiquitous manapua, assorted bowls, and are looking forward to bringing our ramen to Kauai on a regular basis.

“Why ice cream?” someone asked.  Of all the various foods and cuisine out there we could have focused on anything.  And so the story began….

Playing tour guide to a visiting friend one hot Kauai afternoon, we stopped to grab some ice cream.  Sadly it just didn’t live up to my expectations.  I knew that I could make something better and I told my friend that one day I’d make them some of my ice cream so they could taste the difference.  Time passed and that afternoon faded as life moved on.  Years later, an opportunity came up to have a food truck, but what kind of food truck?  The memory of that hot Kauai afternoon returned.  The reason for that ice cream run had been partly to combat the heat, but also because it’s my personal belief that ice cream makes people happy.  It’s rare to see someone get ice cream and not walk away with a smile.  I remember being a kid and how happy it made me to have ice cream.  From that idea and memory, Yamato’s Ice Cream was born.

With the expansion of our unique assortment of homemade ice creams, sherbets, and sorbets has also come an expansion to our food offerings.  The business has grown into a family affair, dipping into the nostalgia of local and Japanese home cooking that I, my wife, and sister-in-law remember.

Yamato’s Ice Cream is a blending of past and present, fond memories of childhood transitioned into adulthood. From our family to yours, we hope that our nostalgia will trigger your own memories of your “small kid” times.
